Chpt 6

Chapter discusses job satisfaction. I have personally witnessed the struggles my parents have gone through in their careers, and therefore I can completely understand the importance of being happy with your job. The thing that seemed most difficult for my father as a bank manager was dealing with the people he worked with. The development of positive relationships with co-workers is crucial to success, and this can be very difficult at times. The text referred to interpersonal value conflicts. These conflicts can make or break job satisfaction, especially when one's held values greatly contrast with management. This is called value attainment, and when it is not achieved, cognitive dissonance is the result. A person who supports values of teamwork and openness and who feels as though employees are hindered from working together will not appreciate the situation. The result is that the person becomes secluded from others and disliking of their job. Besides maintaining healthy work relationships, Entrepreneur.com says one other way to improve job satisfaction is by giving workers responsibility, and letting them accomplish it successfully, rather than micromanaging employees, which causes dissatisfaction. Overall, job satisfaction is an important factor when determining the success of a company.
